A.E. “Mike” Bentzin Memorial Watertown High School Assemblies Program
The purpose of the A.E. “Mike” Bentzin Memorial Watertown High School Assemblies Program is to afford high school students exposure to thinkers, researchers and advocates with special emphasis in the areas of science, arts, technology and mathematics and also with exposure to the humanities and social sciences. This Assemblies Program is designed to extend students’ view of the world to broaden their horizons for what is possible in the future. Through this Assemblies Program, students will learn about opportunities for careers and hear from individuals on their accomplishments, experiences and work which has had a constructive impact on the world.
Mike Bentzin was born, lived and died in Watertown, Wisconsin and was involved in many civic and community activities during his lifetime. He was a member of the Watertown School District Board of Education from May 1952 through April 1960 and was Vice President from 1954 to 1958 and President from 1959-1960. He was also Mayor of the City of Watertown from April 1967 through April 1969. His many leadership roles and civic activities left a positive mark on the greater Watertown community and is a testament to his civic character and love for this community.
Past A.E. “Mike” Bentzin Memorial speaker events hosted guests such as former astronaut and Watertown native, Daniel Brandenstein; host of NOVA Wonders, popular TED speaker and STEM/STEAM Advocate, Dr. Talithia Williams; and award-winning TV host and producer at the forefront of transforming science and tech education, Justin “Mr. Fascinate” Shaifer.
This year, Watertown High School is very excited to announce that the 2024 A.E. “Mike” Bentzin Memorial Watertown High School Assemblies Program is Donald Driver. Donald is a Green Bay Packers’ All-Time Leading Receiver, Super Bowl Champion and Dancing with the Stars Champion. He is also an author of a chart-topping book called The 3D Body Revolution.
Donald Driver overcame poverty and homelessness to become a Super bowl champion, Green Bay Packers all-time leading receiver, Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer, New York Times bestselling author, Dancing with the Stars champion and award-winning humanitarian.
Come to the WHS Auditorium on Thursday, February 29th, as Donald shares his story and how he has continued to show his desire to give back. The program begins at 5:45 p.m. WHS doors open at 5:00 p.m. with limited seating available in the auditorium. Overflow seating will be held in the Commons with the program being livestreamed. If time permits, there will be a photo-op following the presentation.
